Next stop Atlanta. This was the first event for Jeff at Turner Field in Atlanta, GA, so was excited to check out a new site. AJ couldn’t make it, so John Wolf stepped in to take his place. The team arrived Friday afternoon for the test-n-tune to scrub in some new front tires and get some practice on the mixed brick and asphalt surface.
The weather played an important role again at this event. On Friday the weather was perfect with sunny skies and temps in the low 80’s, however rain and cooler weather would dampen the rest of the weekend.
On Saturday the weather turned much cooler with morning temps in the mid 50’s. STC had 6 drivers. Most of whom had competed at Dixie this year and were eager for a rematch. Unfortunately rain during the early part of the run group made for a slow start, but times picked up as it started to dry out. Competition was intense with the lead changing hands after almost every run. In the end Cory Dreyfus took the win with Jeff taking 2nd place just .090 sec back. John Wolf took 5th place.
On to DC! After slightly disappointing results at the Dixie Tour, the Kestrel Racing team focused their sights on the DC ProSolo event at FedEx Field. This is a very popular event with over 260 drivers and the only ProSolo event on the east coast. Hoping to improve on last years results, Jeff and AJ were eager to prove themselves. This years STC class consisted of a competitive field of 10 drivers which was up from last year.
Unfortunately, red lights at the start line had a huge impact on their overall standings with AJ and Jeff ending up 7th and 8th respectively for this event.
Ready, Set, Go! The Kestrel Racing team headed down to South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel Georgia this past weekend to kick off the 2014 Solo National season. Jeff Eng and AJ Snyder once again teamed up to compete in the spec Civic class otherwise known as STC with Jeff’s ’91 Honda Civic Si. This years event was changed back to a Championship Tour event from the previous years Match Tour.
The weather started out great with sunny skies and moderate temperatures, but this was soon to change and have a big affect on the outcome of the standings. As always competition was fierce with seven drivers competing in STC this year. The course on Saturday was a fast out and back design starting from left to right. AJ got an early lead over the rest of the field, but was edged out of first place by David Stanford who pulled off a spectacular last run beating AJ by just .060 sec. Jeff ended up in 5th place .344 sec back from first. With less than .400 sec separating the top 5 drivers, everyone was anxious to improve their times on Sunday, unfortunately mother nature had other plans.
The weather forecast for Sunday was starting to look ominous with a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon, but the morning looked fine. Unfortunately STC was running in the last heat which meant they would most likely be affected by the weather, which ended up being the case. The first two heats ran fine without any weather issues, but the wind was picking up and the clouds were getting darker by the hour. The drivers held out hope that if we got done with the first heats smoothly there would be a chance they could beat out the storm, but timing delays and car mechanical issues removed this hope. By the time third heat was in grid and ready to run, the sky opened up and started to rain hard with thunder and lightening all around. After about 15 minutes the event was called off by the event officials, ending the drivers chances of improving in the standings.
TOPEKA, Kan. (October 11, 2013) – The Sports Car Club of America Board of Directors unanimously approved a proposal by the Solo® Events Board for Street Category cars in the Tire Rack National Solo program, beginning in 2014. The Street Category will feature cars that are essentially off the showroom floor, with specified modifications. Tires in the class must be designed for highway use on passenger cars.
Topeka, Kan. (Jan. 4, 2013) – The inaugural Match Tour will be held at South Georgia Motorsports Park on the weekend of March 16th. The Match Tour format features class competition on Saturday and the Evolution Super Shootout on Sunday. The Shootout format allows the forty-eight fastest drivers to mix with the top four ladies, as well as twelve random drawn drivers in a four-ladder tournament to see who can take home the weekend’s top prize.
