Remember When: Autocrossing 1981 Style

111981_gazette_autoxThe Sports Car Club of America registered some 74 drivers in 13 different classes during registration Saturday. The autocross sponsored by The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, Sports Car of America and Miller Brewing Company was the first of its kind ever held in the area. Drivers in ½ mile obstacle course run, run the bext time, handling and overall performance as they raced thru S-curves, eight slalom turns and 180 degree turns Sunday.

Local Racer Dies in Plane Crash

Wilmington, NC – Danny Alvis, a local SCCA racer was killed Wednesday afternoon when his single-engine plane went down near Danville, VA.

Alvis was flying his Seawind 3000 amphibious aircraft from Carolina Beach, NC to Danville, Va. when the tragic accident occured. The Kestrel Racing Team would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Alvis family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Rev. Warren Sprouse officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
